Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry is a leading provider of mental health and addiction treatment in the Columbus, Ohio, area. With advances in the understanding of depression and its treatment, late-life depression is highly treatable and can lead to improved quality of life and reduction of the severe effects of untreated depression. Unfortunately, many elderly individuals dismiss even the most intense episodes of depression as a normal part of the aging process and do not report their own symptoms or receive proper treatment. These stresses may include increased medical conditions, greater levels of disability, grief over the loss of friends and loved ones, and increasing fears over both health and financial security. Due to the stresses of older adulthood, late-life depression is often more common than once thought. This is why family and friends must remain vigilant and aware of the symptoms of late-life depression and encourage loved ones to seek treatment immediately. As the clinical presentation of late-life depression does vary tremendously from depression at other ages, this mental health disorder can lead to major impairments - including death - in older adults. In the past, clients have reported that they have appreciated my honesty, genuineness, and consideration. While not a normal part of aging, many senior adults develop late-life depression. Life can be incredibly challenging at times, but what I love most, is helping clients uncover their resiliency and working toward feeling better and living their overall best lives. While one intervention does not fit all, I do utilize a variety of skills to help my clients achieve their goals including solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. During those times, I worked with mandated domestic violence and anger management groups and facilitated self esteem and dialectical behavior therapy groups.Ĭurrently, within Serenity, I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, relationship stressors, co-parenting struggles, divorce, and other grief issues. I also had the privilege of working as both a mental health and substance abuse counselor in community mental health and then program supervisor to child, adult, and MAT programs. Prior to moving to Ohio, I have worked at the VA hospital working in both homeless case management programs and IOP/day treatment programs primarily working with seriously mentally ill veterans trying to obtain and maintain housing as well as work toward developing coping skills to help decrease overall mental health symptoms. I have been in the Columbus, Ohio area for 3 years now working at Serenity. Welcome!
